Mod: And welcome back, we're talking about whether there is widespread discrimination against atheists -
folks, who don't believe in god. Lets check in [...]
Mod: So do you think atheists should keep their religious believe secret?
[alle durcheinander]
C: What is their believe? Waht does an atheist believe? Nothing. Right? I think this is such a ridicolous story.
Are we gonna take "in god we trust" off of our dollars? Are we gonna not say "one Nation under god" - when does it end?
You know, we took prayer out of school - what more do they want?!
Mod: Are you here to defend them here tonight?
D: No, I agree with her 100%. I think the real discrimination is atheists against americans who are religious. Listen: We are a christian nation. I'm not a christian, I'm jewish, but i recognize we're a christian country. And freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion.
And the problem is, that you have these atheists selectively - I believe - attacking christianity. You had a case in California, where schoolchildren were forced to dress as muslims and learn from the Quaran. In Michigan there's a high school - Fordson High School [1] - where they say muslim prayers at the football games. A public High School, Fordson High School. You don't see atheists complaining about that. I really believe they are the ones who are the intollerant ones against christians.
Mod: What happened to "love thy neighbour" and the idea, that we should be able to have free speech?
S: That's nonexistant, we all know that. We talk about that in America, but thats pretty much nonexistant, specially
in the red states, particularly the south - thats where the atheists are having the most trouble when they are talking
about violent acts that have been enacted against them, or whatever - exacted (?) against them - or what have you -
thats the kind of area, that they are talking about. I think in New York City - i don't think people too much care
about it. We - we're a christian country, there's no question about that, i love the lord, so does Carol, so does anybody I know, but the reality is that you are entitled to believe what you want as long as your're not - you know - imposing your believe on other people - so be it.
[durcheinander]
C: They have a horrible PR-rep (?) and they have horrible marketing. I mean look, if they had *?*-cards, maybe they would'nt feel so left out.
You know, we have christmas cards, we have tons of cards now, maybe they need to get some atheist-cards and get
the whole bar (?) rolling, so more people can get involved in what they're doing.
I think they need to shut up and let people do...
S: I disagree with that
C: No.
S: I disagree with that
C: No, I think they need to shut up!
S: The reason why I think they dont need to shut up about that is course there are a whole bunch of people in this world
we can look at and say: "they need to shut up", but they certainly don't. You've got everybody fighting for their own individual cause. This is their cause. We might not like it, I dont agree with it AT ALL, but they do have a right.
C: I think they need to shut up about *err um* crying wolf [3] all the time and saying that they're being imposed upon.
I personally think that they should never have taken prayer out of schools.
D: I agree with you 100%.
C ... some morality into schools, but they did that because an atheist went to court and said their child don't pray!
[durcheinander... C: ...nation under god... S: Wait a minute]
D: ... Michael Newdow who went to - all the way to the supreme court umm for his child - the child doesnt know whats going on - to try and take "under god" out of the pledge of allegiance. They are on the attack and its obnoxious and they do need to shut up, your right.
S: They have neen under attack, but the reality again [D: right on] everybody has their own cause. And a fact is (?) there's a whole bunch of people in America who need to shut up and they don't. So why should these people be any less? We live in a nation - we're supposed to be tolerant, we're supposed to be accepting of other people's viewpoints, even when they are not our own and a fact is if they're atheists thats their right. They are not gonna change my believe in god - they're not gonna do that for me.
Mod: What I find interesting is, that if you look at those statistics that they were the most hated of all the minorities: gays, ...
S: I'm not even willing to believe that. Thats NEWS to me,
I mean I've heared that, I read that I just dont believe it!
[durcheinander]
C: You can't [can?!] pick an atheist out of a crowd, I mean I'm sorry...
[durcheinander]
Mod: explain to me, where you feel the assault - when 97% of the folks in this country claim to worship some kind of god.
So the 1 to 3% of this population doesnt believe in god...
C: ...actually its more than 8%... 8 to 12%...
Mod: ...depends on who's numbers you believe...
C: You know, they're not hurting anyone - I dont't personally have a problem with an atheist. Believe or dont believe what you want.
S: Exactly.
C:
But don't impose upon my right to wanna have prayers in [public?!]
schools, to wanna say the pledge of allegiance, to want to honor my god. Dont infringe upon that right.
[durcheinander]
S: When they take god out of the pledge of allegiance - or what have you - here is what I'm saying: If you you...
They are saing: thats christian. What if your a muslim, what if your somebody of a different believe...
D: But this is a christian country...
S: I understand that, but what they're saying [verhaspelt sich]but if we include things, why cant we include all things,
but we are not. THATS the hypocracy, thats where im getting to.
[durcheinander]
D: Let's look at Europe where there are more atheists and where they've lost god where the church is getting not that strong -
Europe is getting islamist, its fast falling and intolerance is increasing. Thats the one reason our country has not become like Europe, because we have strong christians and because atheists are not strong and i think that's a good thing.
Mod: ... I gotta cut it off except for...
